C. C. B. Dona $100 millones para fortalecer la capacidad de pruebas de COVID-19

Con el objetivo de contribuir al fortalecimiento de la capacidad diagnóstica de COVID-19 en la Ciudad y el departamento del Atlántico, la Cámara de Comercio de Barranquilla, CCB, destina $100 millones para ser invertidos en la adquisición de equipamiento tecnológico de la Unidad de Genética y Biología Molecular de la Universidad Simón Bolívar que permita incrementar el número de análisis diagnósticos y disminuir el tiempo de respuesta de los resultados.

Es motivo de orgullo el trabajo realizado por la Universidad Simón Bolívar a través de su Unidad de Genética y Biología Molecular, al ponderarse como centro de referencia nacional en apoyo al Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS).  “Estamos convencidos que esta donación se convierte en un gran apoyo que beneficiará a toda la comunidad, pues con el avance de los días se incrementa la necesidad de un mayor número de análisis de pruebas de las muestras sospechosas de Covid-19, y con el liderazgo de esta Universidad, lograremos tener indicadores para la toma de decisiones sanitarias” precisó Manuel Fernández Ariza, Presidente Ejecutivo de la Cámara de Comercio de Barranquilla. 

Los recursos destinados por la CCB hacen parte del gran aporte solidario de $1.000 millones que la Entidad ha dispuesto para hacer frente a algunas de las necesidades emergentes de la cuarentena en el Atlántico.  Del monto total anunciado, $100 millones ya fueron destinados al Hospital de la Universidad del Norte; los $800 millones restantes hacen parte del “Plan Reactiva”, mediante el cual la CCB ofrece un alivio económico en modalidad de crédito a los micro y pequeños empresarios de Barranquilla y el Atlántico para contribuir a la reactivación de la economía.

José Consuegra Bolívar, rector de Unisimón, agradeció “el espíritu de solidaridad y de apoyo de la Cámara de Comercio” y explicó que la contribución beneficiará a Barranquilla y el Atlántico, al permitir dar un manejo más automatizado de los procesos diagnósticos del laboratorio y, por lo tanto, mejorar la capacidad de atención de la pandemia por parte de las secretarías de Salud Distrital y Departamental, y evitar que la enfermedad cobre más víctimas fatales. Desde el 30 de abril, Unisimón ha recaudado fondos para potenciar la capacidad instalada de su Unidad de Genética y Biología Molecular, con el fin de que puedan hacerse 600 pruebas diarias. Es decir, 450 más de las que se efectúan en la actualidad. Los recursos donados serán auditados por la PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
