que ella necesitará en este periodo de aislamiento preventivo obligatorio, dándole inicio a esta iniciativa distrital impulsada por el alcalde Jaime Pumarejo Heins. “Estoy muy agradecida con el programa Centros de Vida, somos muchos los adultos mayores que necesitamos lo que hoy hacen por nosotros”, afirmó Isabel, quien, a sus 71 años, no baja la guardia y sabe que la mejor manera de cuidarse es quedándose en casa. 
Como parte de las estrategias generadas en medio de la pandemia por el COVID-19, la Alcaldía de Barranquilla, desde la Secretaría Distrital de Gestión Social, dio inicio este lunes a los ‘Centros de vida a tu Casa’ con el fin de poder entregarles una ración diaria de alimento en sus hogares a 7000 adultos mayores del Distrito, garantizando el cumpliendo del aislamiento físico. “7000 adultos mayores van a recibir a partir de hoy, en su casa, una ración alimentaria para ayudarlos nutricionalmente, como lo indicó nuestro alcalde Jaime Pumarejo”, dijo el secretario de Gestión Social, Santiago Vásquez, quien invitó a proteger a los adultos mayores, por ser una población sensible ante la enfermedad. “Centro de vida a tu casa’ inició con la inscripción de 3.500 adultos mayores a través de líneas telefónicas y enlace
web dispuestos para este propósito. Sumados a los 3.500 beneficiarios que ya hacían parte del programa Centros de Vida en total se brindará el auxilio alimentario a 7000 personas de esta población. Seguidamente, se empezó con las previsitas en las que los funcionarios del programa verificaron el cumplimiento de las condiciones establecidas para hacer parte de esta estrategia: 1.- Que el adulto mayor esté en casa, cumpliendo el aislamiento físico. 2.- Tener 70 años de edad o más. 3.- Vivir en estrato 1, 2 o 3. Los funcionarios velarán para que sea el adulto mayor quien reciba la ración y logre alimentarse correctamente.
“Cada uno de los alimentos cumple con las normas exigidas por el Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar en lo que respecta a la alimentación necesaria para el adulto mayor”, expresó Vianet Niebles, líder del programa Adulto Mayor en el Distrito. Para esta estrategia, 23 Centros de Vida funcionarán como puntos de producción de los alimentos a entregar y serán 102 repartidores quienes llevarán los auxilios directamente a las casas. Durante la entrega, a cada adulto mayor se le da una 
carta de aceptación en la que se le estipulan los lineamientos y se le recuerda permanecer en casa, solo con dos excepciones para salir: asistir a una cita médica de alta prioridad y cobrar pensión o subsidio según el cronograma. Con esta iniciativa, Barranquilla no baja la guardia y sigue buscando el bienestar de sus ciudadanos, en especial de su población más vulnerable.
