Es autor de la serie Los recursos de la imaginación: Artes visuales de la región  Caribe y Los recursos de la imaginación: Artes visuales de la Zona Andina, y Los recursos de la imaginación: Artes visuales de Oriente y Occidente, que abarcan todo el país. Es el autor de la biografía ¡Azúcar!: La biografía de Celia Cruz, y de un excelente libro de cuentos Los perros de Benarés y otros retablos peregrinos, además de una novela inédita y un libro de ensayos sobre García Márquez, también inédito.

Márceles nació en Aracataca, Licenciado en humanidades en la Universidad de Nueva York (EUA, 1970) y máster en artes del Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de California (Berkeley, EUA), con especialidad en historia cultural de América Latina y énfasis en artes visuales y literatura. A principios de los años 70 entró a un monasterio en Sri Lanka, donde fue monje budista hasta 1973. Luego residió en Barcelona, España, donde fue traductor para diversas editoriales.

Regresó a Colombia en 1975 para enseñar literatura y teatro de América Latina en el programa de posgrado de la Universidad Javeriana en Bogotá. Fue profesor visitante de estudios latinoamericanos y editor del diccionario chino-español en la Universidad de Estudios Internacionales de Shanghái (China, 1986) y profesor visitante distinguido en la Universidad de Miami-Dade, Florida (EUA, 1989). Reside en Nueva York desde 1989 hasta 2004, cuando se radica en Salgar, Atlántico. Ha publicado el libro de cuentos Los perros de Benarés y otros retablos peregrinos (Editorial La Oveja Negra, 1985) y el libro de ensayos La crítica de arte y las tendencias de la pintura en Colombia (Minrex, 1984).

Márceles es Curador, Narrador e Investigador Cultural

Es autor de ¡Azúcar!: La biografía de Celia Cruz. Textos suyos han aparecido en diarios y revistas de Colombia, Estados Unidos y América Latina.
