Una bienvenida fraternal dio el alcalde Jaime Pumarejo Heins a la minga indígena durante un encuentro privado que sostuvo con representantes de esta organización del Cauca. En el encuentro fue fraterno: “En Barranquilla y en su gente siempre encontrarán un abrazo y las ganas de buscar salidas, porque tenemos que crear un país más justo, una sociedad tranquila que viva en paz y que sepa debatir y encontrar salidas que nos beneficien a todos”, les dijo. El diálogo y la construcción colectiva de la paz como principal objetivo de esta visita fueron claves durante esta reunión. Por su parte, los líderes indígenas dijeron sentirse “acogidos y agradecidos” por el recibimiento que tuvieron a su llegada a Barranquilla.
Giovanny Yule, vocero de la minga social, popular y comunista, agradeció el acompañamiento y el respeto que mostró la ciudad con sus integrantes. “Sentimos mucha alegría y estamos muy emocionados por el recibimiento, que fue sensacional para nosotros. El alcalde nos invitó a esta reunión y tuvimos una conversación muy importante, así que estamos haciendo un agradecimiento a la Alcaldía y a todos los funcionarios porque ha sido un recibimiento muy bonito”, manifestó.
Yule dejó en claro que ellos, como representantes de los pueblos indígenas, ponen todo su potencial y conocimiento “para contribuir con el resto de la sociedad. A Barranquilla muchas gracias. Barranquilla nos ha acogido con mucho amor”. El alcalde Pumarejo escuchó la intervención de más de cinco integrantes de la minga y resaltó el mensaje de paz que traen a la ciudad; además, manifestó que en Barranquilla prevalecerá y se velará por la manifestación pacífica y el diálogo permanente como la vía indicada para la resolución de conflictos o diferencias.
“Es un mensaje de construcción colectiva, de búsqueda de salidas y de acuerdos, y de un futuro que sea mejor para todos”, afirmó. El alcalde les aseguró que con este encuentro cercano quiso conocer de primera mano “sus experiencias, sus vivencias y, al mismo tiempo, poder amplificar el mensaje de que ustedes vienen en paz”.
