Ex concejal de Barranquilla, ex congresista del Atlántico (Autor de las Leyes 706/01 -que convierte los carnavales de Barranquilla y Pasto en Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación- y 1016/06 -que profesionaliza la actividad del periodismo en Colombia-). Catedrático de las universidades: Autónoma del Caribe, Uninorte, UNAD y profesor de literatura, historia y filosofía del colegio Salesiano Don Bosco de Barranquilla). Secretario de Educación (1992 – 1993) y de Comunicaciones (2003) de la Alcaldía Distrital de Barranquilla.
Precandidato a la Alcaldía de Barranquilla en la consulta interna del Polo Democrático en 2007. Asesor Nacional del Colegio Nacional de Periodistas (Ponente del Código de Ética de los Periodistas). Nominado Premio Nacional de Periodismo en 1984 y Segundo Premio Regional de Poesía de la Unión Nacional de Escritores en 1992. Autor de los libros «Las Mariposas son Flores que Juegan a la Libertad», «Alas de la Soledad», «La Ópera del Profeta» una obra tríptico compuesta por las novelas: “Merecumbé» – “Alicia se volvió canción” publicadas y “Batata” próxima a ser editada.
